The Aqua Restaurant, latest in the Hong Kong based group’s chain and the first outside China is in a vast space (17,000 square feet), on the top floor of the former Dickins & Jones department store, on Regent Street. It houses two restaurants: 'Aqua Nueva' serves “contemporary northern Spanish cuisine”, whilst the Japanese ‘Aqua Kyoto’ has a sushi bar and sumibiyaki charcoal grill. These are complemented by a bar, ‘Aqua Spirit’, and three outdoor terraces.
In altering the fifth floor of the classic store to its new use, problems of drainage arose. Gravity drainage was not an option as the pipes were not within reach. Waste and water from the kitchens and bars needed to be dealt with quickly and efficiently. Kehr and Tucker, Consulting Engineers to the project, turned to Saniflo for answers and specified 5 Sanicubic Pro units to take the waste water. The units were located adjacent either to a wall or a steel column permitting the pump discharge and vent pipe to rise from the floor void and above the false ceiling to run to the nearest gravity drainage pipe. Any item of kitchen equipment requiring a grease trap was provided with an integral trap by the kitchen specialist suppliers.
Sanicubic is a high performing macerator pump that can discharge waste and water from multiple WCs and other waste water producing appliances. It pumps waste away through small-bore pipework up to 11m vertically, 100m horizontally or a lesser combination of vertical x horizontal.
The unit has inlet diameters of 110mm for WC waste and 40mm for waste water. The unit can handle waste water of up to 70°C for short periods and has dual motors for absolute reliability and power. There are two alarms one unit mounted and one remote. The unit operates on a domestic power supply of 220-240V AC 50Hz.
