Caravan site extended with Sanifos underground pumps

Welltrough Hall Farm is situated just outside the village of Lower Withington in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. The 270-acre working farm is also home to a well-equipped caravan and motor home park boasting stunning views over the farm and countryside beyond. The site, which was established in 2016, offers 17 hard standing pitches located in a rural and peaceful setting and is renowned for its excellent facilities. It is close to tourist attractions including Jodrell Bank Telescope, Tatton Park, Redesmere Lake, Little Moreton Hall, Arley Hall and Gardens and importantly a picturesque walk to the local pub.

The popular Caravan Park was voted in the Top 100 sites in the UK by Caravan Owners in 2021 and in 2022 the site came 'Runner-Up' in the 'Best Caravan Park in the North West' category.

Nick Welltrough, who owns and runs the farm and the caravan site, is currently spending the closed season adding extra capacity to cope with continued demand. An additional five hard standing pitches with electrical hook-ups will be available on an adjacent hillside plot and these will benefit from a more reliable and discreet drainage system thanks to the installation of a new Sanifos 610 underground pump from Saniflo. The unit will also take waste from seven existing pitches as well as a WC block and Elsan point.

Nick initially saw the unit on the Plastic Solutions stand at the Glamping Show in Stoneleigh which he visited to gather ideas for a more reliable and discreet pumping solution;

"I was using a macerator pump to take the waste from the hillside pitches but it was failing regularly because of wet wipes being flushed away which stopped the grinder from working. This was not a product fault, because the unit isn't designed to flush wet wipes; unfortunately, customers didn't notice our signs mentioning this. Because I wanted to add further pitches and another Elsan point, it made sense to source an alternative. This was also an opportunity to make the whole drainage process more discreet and remove the storage tanker from site."

The Sanifos underground lifting station was on display on the Plastic Solutions stand and the enquiry passed to the sales team at Saniflo. A site survey was undertaken to scope out the job and the 610 litre Sanifos with a vortex discharge system recommended to overcome the issue of wet wipes. Nick has now installed the unit underground and connected it to the existing pipework for the original plots, toilet block and Elsan tipping point. Multiple connection points on the unit ensures that the new facilities can be connected as soon as they are ready. The unit pumps up a bank approximately 10m and along a distance of almost 200m horizontally to connect to the main sewer on the site. To ensure continuity of service it has two pumps and is fully alarmed. In the event of one pump breaking down, the Sanifos will continuously use the other until the issue is sorted. So far, the pump has worked perfectly and once the final connections from the new pitches are made Nick will landscape its location to ensure that only the lid is visible and accessible for maintenance;

"The Sanifos won't be visible to customers which was a key priority. We have alpacas and rare breed goats, woodland walks, breathtaking views of the countryside and now we have a drainage solution that offers total peace of mind. I am very pleased with the solution."

Plastic Solutions is a sales partner of Saniflo. The company manufactures and sells robust and durable plastic storage tanks including the Glampsan brand for the leisure sector. Saniflo pumps complement the tanks offering an efficient pumping solution for waste discharge.
